Help, Vin # On 69-70 Fords
I NEED A BOOK OR SITE THAT WILL HELP ME DECODE VIN NUMBER ON FORD LTD. I HAVE FOUND A COUPLE OF LTDS WITH BIG BLOCKS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE 5TH PLACE IN THE VIN # TELLS WHAT MOTOR IS IN THE CAR. I FOUND A 70-71 LTD WITH "S". IT'S LOOKS LIKE A MODIFIED 351 OR 400, BUT WOULD LIKE TO CHECK IT OUT. I KNOW A LOT OF THESE OLD CARS HAVE HAD THE MOTORS CHANGED. BUT ONE NEVER KNOWS, 390 HIPO OR A 428 WOULD BE NICE. I DID FIND A 65 TRUCK WITH A 428.

Post the number that you have and I am sure between all of us we can break it down. I have the book that breaks down the data numbers for the 69 Torino Cobras and such and also one that breaks everything down for 67/69 Mustangs and they are pretty much the same. The only 70 number that I have seen works the same way as they didn't go to the 17 digit or whatever it is Vin until around 84 I believe. My 69 number below. 63TDA30M72V6 9H46R 158XXX The R is the engine code which in my case is a 428SJC. All the rest tells the transmission, body style, where built, trim codes, car color, etc. Ron |
