Rag Joint Replacement?
On the Mustang II front end of my Cobra, the steering rag joint is damaged/coming apart. The 'rag' is rubber to dampen the steering, right? Can I do without it? Can't seem to find a replacement part in Jegs or Summit. Do I have to replace the whole steering joint? Maybe a Ford dealer sells just the 'rag".
Thanks

I would not eliminate it if I were you. I wish I had one, instead I have steering wheel shake.

Both Flaming River, and Borgeson make a damped connector that replaces the rag joint, and is a lot stronger and tighter than a rag joint. Steering wheel doesn't vibrate, but steering response is substantially improved.

I replaced the uper u-joint with a Borgeson dampner joint ($100). The vibration at 55mph has been removed. Check out Borgeson.
