Spf Coolant Reservoir Question
HELP!! Engine install is complete, but I noticed there is a hole on the top of the coolant reservoir canister. The hole is BELOW the hose on top of the canister i believe would be used to allow excess colant to escape to the ground. I am not referring to the puke tank, but the reservoir canister located in the lower passengerside front of engine compartment that the puke tank hose is connected too. It looks like coolant would piss out of that hole before it could ever reach the overflow hose on the top of the canister. I am sure this is a dumb question but i need a little help from some of you experianced spf owners. thank you in advance Tom
P.S. It appears that the hole is machined into the canister as it is perfectly round and does not look like it was not intended to be there. the hole is roughly the size of a round toothpick diameter. |

That hole keeps the coolant overflow tank at atmospheric pressure. Without it the overflowing fluid would pressurize the overflow tank and probably rupture it. It would also end up raising your coolant pressure in your engine well above 15psi, creating leakage and damage risk. Make sure the hose from the header tank neck (~3/8" dia) is attached to the top fitting on the overflow bottle. Chuck |
Wowzers, this is an ancient post but is helpful because I do not think my overflow tank has Any hole in it, because when my engine cools down the top radiator hose collapses.
Maybe why I have issues with intake manifold gaskets too???? Any and all thoughts and ideas Greatly appreciated!!! My car in an SPF Thanks Fellas :) |

I always wondered about my coolant overflow tank?!? Errrr. There is no hole in it!
So I think I should drill a hole. About the size of a toothpick? Where is the best place on the tank? |
