Depending on NY regulations, that should work. In Iowa I used a 12 v. fan that cliped to the dash.Used it for inspection and took it back to the store for a refund after I finished with it.

Harbor freight, $5.99.

12V heater with clip mounting. Works okay, not a drive you out of the seat heater, but works.

Yea about as much sense as having one in your boat.
NY does require one, but to what extent, I don't know. Would a clip on work.....who knows.

I live in Alabama and I use my defroster a lot. Drove 160 miles last Saturday and the heater / defroster was on all the way.
