351C WaterPump-Pulleys
I am pretty new to the Cobra scene and have a few questions about re-doing a few things on my 351C.
Can I run a V-belt pulley via crank, water pump & alternator? Currently I have disconnected the power steering to accomadate a March Alternator bracket which runs off the front crank pulley. In doing so the stock water pump pulley is lined up with the back crank pulley. Will just another water pump pulley work? Also I would perfer to replace the water pump and go to a serpentine set up. How easy is this. I understand I need a w/p which rotates in the opposite direction and heard they are hard to find for the Clevelands? Any help would be appreciated. Jovi |
Well, sort of. I ran a screw down water pump belt so if the alternator belt got tossed ( high RPMs ) the water pump would stay in tack. You can run the three as you asked, it is a prefered way.
If you are running PS, may I suggest a pump that cuts out at 1500 RPM or can be shut off with a switch or something. PS in a cobra may make the steering too touchy and lead to too sensitive a wheel. The ideal would be to have PS when you need it and manual the rest of the time. PS is best for parking lots and slow steering apps. Going to serpentine could be pricey. I suggest you call March and ask them for the entire package on this one. Hope this helps. |
I did speak with March and they have pulleys which should solve the problem.
You are correct the PS is very sensitive and should be ok without it. they also said if I switch to a serpentine set-up there is no room for PS anyway. Thanks for the help. |
