How in this world do you compress...

A coilover spring? I need to compress one so I can put the top spring cup on the coilover shock....My spring compressor that I have just won't work. It won't allow enough room to get the top cup on.

What else can I use? This spring is 450lbs. I would prefer it not get away from me......

I use a pair of external spring compressors meant for use on strut type cars. On the clearance issue, sometimes the fix is just to invert the compressors.

I tried that...but there's just not enough lip there to get a good bite on the spring. I'm really afraid these things will come flying off and kill me.

Alright....finally got it....I had to remove the all-thread altogether....and place each end on independently....that way I had enough room to wiggle them in....
