Recommend a spark plug for Vic Jr's ...
I'm going over my spark plug options for my Vic Jr. heads. The head literature recommends a Champion 14mm with a .75" reach....part # C59YC...They're like $5 a plug.
What other plugs out there would be good for my application? I have no idea how hot or cold these Champions are....just looking for an alternative..... How cold or hot should I go for a street driver? |
Brent,
On the heat range chart the C59YC is a projected nose plug, (out of 6 choices) next to the coldest. I believe it is comparable to a 3911 Autolite. Go to CV products website (or others) for heat range charts and make your own comparisons. Rick |
I'm just wondering if there is a certain type of plug that I need for that head......Like does it have to be a projected nose?
Also, what heat range do I need? Would a hotter plug help me on idle or low throttle operation? |
The manufacturer of the head has certainly done enough 3D Modeling and engineered the casting to utilize a particular design and style of plug and therefore reccomends a particular "Family" of plugs with some degree of confidence. The Final selection is left to you. The projected nose plug puts the point of ignition further into the combustion chamber for better combustion. You can certainly use a regular gap (non projected) but will probably sacrifice some power. As far as heat range, their recomendation will be on the conservative side to keep you out of preignition, to avoid internal damage. Your particular combination, jetting, compression ratio, cam and other factors will dictate the final heat range.
