Another spark plug question...
I know that hotter plugs are longer in the tip....is the difference enough that it would cause clearance interference in a cylinder head?
Edelbrock recommends a C59Y Champion plug for my Vic Jr.'s.....if I go to a C61Y (next heat size up), do you think I should still be ok? |
Some times. They make "indexing rings" so you can direct the spark blast at a certain area and pull the plug tip away from the piston head.
I haven't heard of someone using them in many years. |
Blykins:
Hotter plugs by design are not any "Longer" and will not cause any interference. The internal "heat sink path" through the porcelin and into the plug seat is longer therby taking longer to disperse the heat, therefore it is a Hotter plug. Have you run the 59's yet? Get the car on the road befor you begin to 2nd guess your setup. As previously stated, the cold plugs are initially recomended to keep you out of "preignition danger". If you can get one, Champion makes an excellent pamphlet explaining theory on their racing plugs with several graphs and complete application and heat range guide. Rick |
I'm confused on what I have run. Initially, I'm pretty sure I ran what Edelbrock recommends.....an RC12YC.
Somewhere along the way I think I have used C59Y's.....I was going to go a little hotter (61's) so when I do work on the engine....carb tuning....etc....and it has to idle a lot....then it would help any fouling issues. I ordered another set of RC12YC's to swap out this weekend. |
