What gears are best for my Cobra
Hello,
I have a 351c, 2v( stock), 4 speed toploader, Ford 9 in rear end. I think my gears are low because I don'treally "take off" I'm wondering what you guys think would be a good choice of gears. I want to be able to cruise on long rides, so 4.11 I don't think will be good. Do any of you have a similiar set up, what gears are you using? 3.50? Thanks |
I ran a 3:73 rear end behind my last toploader and it seemed to really pull well. I originally had 3:27 gears and this was a big change for the better. I also ran a 351c.
Different subject but if you need any 4v cleveland parts, I have a great extra motor ready to go! |
If you just want to cruise go with a 3.08 or 3.35 gears. Cruising at 70 mph w/ 350 gears you will be turning around 4000 RPM. There is a link to a chart that will allow you to put in your tire size, tranny, and pick the most desireable gears but I can't find it now.

I have 3.56 rear and Toploader. With the price of gas going nuts 3.00-3.25 would better milage or a six speed with two overdrives it all depends on where your priorities are.

Get a 5 (1 OD) or 6 speed (2 ODs) transmission with a 3.50 to 3.73 rear. That way you can get going and still turn reasonable RPM (1,600 to 2000 at 60 mph) on the highway.
