351c cobra jet question
I just bought some '73 351c heads off a pantera. I'm looking at 4v intakes now. There's one on ebay, '70 cobra jet intake. Would this be better than say the Edelbrock performer 4v since it is a specific Cobra jet intake manifold.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
I hope Rick chimes in, but I am using a Torquer, but I understand a funnel web ( I probably got this name wrong ) is the way to go.
Don't take this wrong, but I would plan my engine on what I want, and avoid the ebay sale ( unless it is the part you plan to use ). Just my $0.02 |
It depends. What kind of power and use etc are you looking for? Just as a generalization, below say 230, 235 @ 50 or so I would look at the Blue Thunder intake. Above that I would look at the Funnel Web. I have some more specific recommendations from both companies if you would like. For a really mild motor, say below 21o'ish I would be looking at the Performer. The open chamber heads like a little work in the port at the valve guide, some blending in the bowls to the seats and an angle mill will improve compression and quench. You are dealing with a lot of valve train weight here so any thing you can do to keep it down is a plus. Of course fitting to your application. Don't run the stock locks and retainers and the tuffrided (sp?) stock rockers are fine until you start spining some higher RPMs. Say 6500 or so. Above that I like the comp steel roller rockers for the BB Chevy. Ratio difference is only .03. The open chamber heads also like a lot of timing and I recently found that a MSD unit really wakes up the driveability With careful prep, new rod bolts and forged pistons the bottom end is good for 7000 very reliably. Exhaust port may benefit from stuffers since most of us have pipes that come out pretty darn straight compared to the packaging requirements that these engines where designed to deal with. I am no builder so take this for what is it worth!
