Let's take a Windsor out to 600 CID. Maybe we can get the connecting rods out to an 80 degree angle!

I was wondering, why is the inside of the FE painted orange?? and what does it do??:confused: :JEKYLHYDE

RLander;
I think the lifter valley on the 390 is painted with Glyptal, which makes the surface slicker and allows the oil to drain back faster. It's available from Eastwood if you want to try it. Bill Stradtner |
Used to use Glyptol on the whole inside of the block after grinding off all the stray casting flash and parting lines. I provides a less coarse surface and lower surface tension and does indeed allow oil to drain back faster and not spend as much time on the internal surfaces.

Cool, thats kinda what i thought it was for, so this just helps the oil get to the sump faster decresing the chance for bad things. I suppose i will try this. :cool: thanks for the help, I am new to this forum if you havent noticed, but ive been a member of Fordmuscle for awhile, and have heard good things about this forum. :D

Just make sure you prep the block correctly or it will flake off into the engine! G.

I'm confused :confused:
Since when: did 427ci = 8 liters 4.113 bore * 3.98 stroke = 428ci don't you need to bore to +80 to get 428ci Oh well, makes me happier with my +60 overbored 390 anyway :3DSMILE: Paul |
A 427 is 7 litres. These Mustang guys are easily confused.
|
That article has some seriously ignorant comments. Even if you ignore the 428 cu. in. = 8 liters.
Quote "The FE big-block has the weight and moment advantage here. Translated--more torque from a huge crankshaft. Lots of kinetic energy going on here." They didn't say an advantage from the crankshaft's stroke or a favorable rod ratio but from it's heavy WEIGHT! |
The main difference I always thought between SB and BB was that SB can give a great performance engine with good weight advantage but it would be quite stressed. A BB could be made to make the some power without as much stress but it is heavier, bulkier etc.
If I was to do a lot of track time I would prefer a SB but for general crusing with lots of noise (Which is what I do ;) ) I prefer my BB. It all depends on what you want out of your Cobra. :3DSMILE: Of course, I could be completly wrong about all of this :D and have no idea what I'm talking about :JEKYLHYDE Paul |
