Roll bar mount pictures?

If anybody here is working off the Cobra Restorers' plans, you understand why I'm asking so many questions. For the others, well, I at least hope you aren't going through this with your build. :)

Does anyone here have any pictures of the outboard roll bar mount for an original or Shelby 4000/7000? With the body off would be best, of course, but I'll take anything I can get. The plans show a bracket and dimensions, but nowhere on the plans does it show where it mounts? Am I missing something obvious?

After looking at the Kirkham photos, I don't think they use the same mount system. If I can't get something soon, I'll just have to figure something out for myself. I'd like to get all the welding on this frame done before I send it off to get powdercoated.

Thanks, Bob

Bob... see if these help.

First, a shot of the downtube mount in the trunk with panels in place..

Next a shot in the trunk without the panels. Dark but you can make out the bolt pattern (three-in-a-row) where the bracket picks up the two square frame tubes...

Let me know if you need other views.

Ron,
Thanks, but the shot I need is of the outer leg of the hoop right behind the driver. I can't figure out how it is attached or how long it needs to be, so I'm stumped trying to order my hoop lengths.

I pretty much figured out the strut layout and the middle mount is in place on the frame already.

Thanks, Bob

gotcha...let me look for a pic of that area.

computerworks 05-04-2005 09:38 PM

OK...this may help.

The legs of the rollbar are unequal lengths.

Here is the area behind the driver, with the interior panel in place...

Now, here are the two mount points, one higher than the other, indicated by arrows...

I can find more specific views if you need it.

Ron,

Thanks a ton, that is a perfect shot of what I need. In fact, I was looking at the wrong brackets (Darned Cobra restorers' plans) and now it makes a lot more sense.
I'm actually missing the outer bracket that I will need to fab and install to make this work. May have to wait until the rear suspension is in place to see where it goes as it is obviously right above the LCA.
Could I bother you for one more thing? How tall are your hoops from the mount on the frame (lower) to the top of the hoop? I need to have the hoops bent and need a leg length.

Thanks again, Bob

I can get you the detailed dimensions of the rollbar for posting tomorrow night.

Glad the pics helped make some sense out of things. :-)

Ron,

Have you had an opportunity to measure the hoops for me yet?

Hate to be a pest, but thanks.

Bob

leg lengths

Got it, Bob...

(now this is a take-off from a Kirkham... the bar is slightly higher than orig.)

If I draw a horizontal line, tangent to the top surface of the hoop...

The inner leg is 54" and the outer leg is 46"...measured to the base of the pipe...not including the threaded mount....
...Both have a 7/8" long threaded rod at the bottom for mounting

Thanks Ron

Color of Diff

That diff is supposed to be Red-orange, same as the Salisbury's in the XKE's?

What's the darn fun in using studs? With the bolts you have to squeeze the two legs with one arm while inserting the bolts with the other... its quite an experience. The original used bolts... concours minus 4 points, improper hardware.

computerworks 05-06-2005 02:55 PM

Hi Ya Roger.....how have you been?

...looking for the right paint for the diff...have some swatches, but not a good match yet.

My new roll bar....thinner and shorter...will have bolts at the base. :-)

Three Peaks 05-06-2005 03:57 PM

Heck Ron,
Since you're going to have a new roll bar, why don't you just sell me yours and save me all this trouble?! :)

BTW, I got my frame and body from Roger. I'm sure he's cussing up a storm that I'm not doing it all original, but it's just not in the budget. Hopefully, he'll still be willing to help me out now and again as I need it.

Bob
