Anyone use Dynamat?

Has anyone used Dynamat (I think thats the spelling)? I've been told its for soundproofing. How do you apply it? I think you place it first then the carpet goes on top. If thats the case, do you need special adhesive for the Dynamat and the carpet?

Yes, I used Dynamat Xtreme for both sound and heat. I purchased it through Summit (#DYC-20455) 9 sheets 18" x 32". It has an adhesive liner and is very easy to cut and intstall. Cut to fit, peal of the backing, stick in place, and use a roller to smooth out any rough spots. Then just use 3M super adhesive and glue on the carpet. I did the firewall, footboxes, floors and trans tunnel. It took almost all 9 sheets. I haven't riden in to many other cars, but I can easily carry on a normal conversation with my wife while driving, but can't talk standing outside the car due to exhaust noise. I have a pic in my gallery of the installation before carpet. Heres a link:

Ditto Brad...I did pretty much the same with one exception: I did not use it on the firewall because it is a FIREWALL I used a fire retardant material for insulation/sound.

When using the Dynamat try to get it warm. It is much easier to work with and mold around shapes.

What did you use on the firewall?

I had a custom firewall cover built out of stainless, had it ceramic coated by Poly Dyn, attached Dynamat to the backside and installed it in my LS 427. I will also install Dynamat throughout the cockpit for both sound reduction and insulation form heat.

That would be FROM heat. Sorry.

I used a thin asbestos (but not asbestos) type material I got from either Jegs or Summit and then used the foil backed insulation.
