Removable passenger roll bar
Signed up for my first NASA HPDE course and found that I must have a roll bar on the passenger side so an instructor can ride with me. No problem with that logic. Question is, has anyone created a removable roll-bar that can be bolted in for the track and then removed to restore the "original" look of the car for the street? Would be ok with a full size bar - covers both seats - or one that would "add" a single hoop for the passenger side. Also don't want to cut any holes in the body. Am hoping there is some kind of 3 point or 4 point set-up that can be bolted to the floor so you can take the carpet out, bolt it down, and then when you remove the bar, put the carpet back over the plates. Have tried to read through a lot of old threads on this, and saw mention from 2 years ago of people fabricating such stuff but no pics or further info. Seems to be a common need. Oh, BTW it's for an ERA if that matters.

Take the course in another vehicle and then apply what you've learned to your car.
Do they really expect folks to punch holes in their cars for a one time ride-along? |
I took an advanced driver's course at the Jim Russell school at Sear's Point a few years ago. The instructor was extremely concerned about only having one roll bar, and wouldn't let me drive lead in the "lead - follow" portion of the course. I thought this was a bit silly from a guy driving my car while wearing shorts, polo shirt, top-sider shoes with nylon socks, an open face helmet, no gloves, and talking on a hand held walkie-talkie. I was more concerned about me being a passenger!
Good luck. Try the local Shelby club - our Nor Cal Chapter doesn't require such a drastric modification for our driving school. Regards, Randy R... |
