fe connecting rods
WHAT CONNECTING RODS ARE BEING USED IN STOCK STROKE FE'S? EAGLE, DSC OR HAWKS. ANY INPUT WELCOME.
THANKS, BYRON W |
I was planning to put Eagles in mine....they have H-Beams in a stock length.
You can find the same rods (just under a different name like Pacific Pro, etc...) for about $350. |
THANKS BRENT, TMD ON E-BAY HAS SOME THAT LOOK JUST LIKE EAGLES, DESCRIPTION AND ALL, FOR 359.00. IAM NOT SURE ABOUT THESE "HAWKS" RODS. EAGLES ON E-BAY FOR 529.00. MIGHT JUST DO THESE.
THANKS , BYRON |
I would trust the TMD. I'd say it's all the same rod. You take a big solid chunk of 4340 steel with ARP cap bolts....it's hard to go wrong.
I'm spec'ing out my parts for my upcoming FE build. I plan on going with those and a Scat crank. You can get a new Scat internally balanced crank for $569. Not too shabby. |
thanks again brent, i will check those out as well

brent, what stroke are you going with? also, what final cubic inch?
byron w. |
4.130" bore, 3.98" stroke. Should be a 427-428.
I thought about going with the 4.125" stroke crank....but I was wanting this engine to be a little revvy. It would be nice to go with the Scat stroker crank....you use BBC rods with it....and they're really cheap. But I don't know anyone with that combo to ask them how the engine performs. I guess I could ask Keith Craft....he'd probably know. :-) A 4.130" bore and 4.125" stroke would be 442 ci. Another good reason to go with the first option would be to say there's a 427/428 in there. :-) |
Like you, I like the shorter stroke for the quicker revs. However, in one of these I am not sure we could really tell the difference.
There have been several posts in the past about the scat stroker motors. Might look in the FE Forum and Shop Talk. What cam and heads? Later Gator Byron W |
Thinking about a Comp Cams solid flat tappet....
248 duration, .605" lift. Edelbrock aluminum heads....would like to get a price on what it take for Keith Craft to massage them a little.... |
I have talked to the folks at KC and they are very good to talk to and very personalble. I also have seen their work and it is very good. I am looking at a comp cams 292 hyd with edelbrock heads and a single plane holley street dominator with a demon 750.
Talk to you soon Byron W |
