A&C Gas tank vent
Ok, the assembly manual for my A&C recommends that I run the gas tank vent tube out the trunk and let it empty onto the ground. This way when I fill up, the overflow, however much that is, will run out onto the ground. I am not too comfortable with that in today's world of high gas prices and environment responsibility. What did other A&C builders do? I do not want to invest in a new filler neck if I can avoid it. Thanks

A&C Gas Tank Vent
I ran the vent as prescribed in the Assembly Manual. You have to try to get the hose as high as you possibly can in the wheel well. Whenever I fill up, as the tank reaches the full level, I can hear a brief gurgle or burp sound that lets me know it is full. If I continue to pump gas past the point when I hear that sound, gas will flow out of the vent hose and onto the ground.
I have found that with time, listening for the gurgle has become second nature and overfilling (and losing gas through the vent hose) is not a problem. |

Why are you able to fill fuel past the point were fuel reaches were the vent starts? The vent should allow fuel to flow up to the top of the tank and then the Fuel lever on the pump should shut off. The reason for this is back pressure build up after you fill to the top of the tank and the vent no longer bleeds off air. Do you continue to resqueeze the fuel lever or does it never turn off? If prperly vented you should only be able to fill to a full tank and no further. Just curious. Mine shuts the fuel lever off at full. Granted I have a fuel cell, but the vent exits only eight inches above the tank.

I don't set the pump handle to automatic when filling. I continuously hold the trigger in the dispense position. I really never tried to set it on auto. Nonetheless, when it reaches full I can hear an audible gurglr that tells me that it is full and I release the trigger.
