Switch to Coil-over
Hi,
Didn't get any hits from the B & B section so I figured I would give the shop talk a shot. I have Mustang II suspension front and rear on my B & B and I have finally make a commitment to convert to coil overs. From a past post I think I can just bolt in a pair of QA-1 shocks in the front. Any other suggestions? I am unsure about the rear. What is involved in installing coil overs in the rear?? Admittedly- I am a little naive on suspension so specific info would be appreciated. Does the 4 link need to be changed? Do I use the same top shock mount for the coil over in the rear? FYI-The car is just driven on the street. Thanks |
I installed the QA-1 coil overs on my car several years ago and I have the Mustang 11 front suspension with the Ford 8.8 rear end. The only thing that I had was a friend of mine that owns a sheet metal business had me bring it in on a Saturday when they were closed and he cut and lowered the front shock mounts so the springs and shocks fit like they chould. The rear was easy. Just cut out the old weight jack screws, jacked the car up and removed the old springs and shocks and installed the coil overs. And yes, I used the same mounts as the old shocks had in the rear and it has been that way now for about 5 years with some hard driving and all I have done is adjust the rebound occasionally as I got the 12 way adjustable ones. Once I got the ride height set like I wanted it I took the car to have the front end alignment checked and it was so close they told me they wouldn't touch it. Just make sure that your front shocks are long enough for the top mounting, as I have seen some people put extensions on their shocks and I didn't like that idea.
