Which axles for my 8.8"?
Apparently from what many have said, I got stuck with an 8.8" axle from a 94 Mustang GT. This makes the track wider by about 1.50" overall.
I'm going to switch axles and use shorter axles to get that 1.50" back. Does anybody know which 5 lug 8.8" axles will work and from what year approximately? I'm going to modify the caliper mounts so they will work, I just don't want to mess with narrowing the housing etc. |
I just went through this so maybe I can help. The reason your axle is longer is because of the ABS ring. In order to pull my wheels closer, I used a set of 5 lug axles from a six cylinder non-abs Mustang axle. I also had to use the calipers, brackets and rotors from the six cylinder because I switched from a Mark VII axle setup that was going bad. All of the housings measured the same from a Mustang GT, 6 cylinder and Mark VII. Since you already have the calipers and rotors, you should be close. Let me know if I can be of any other assistance.

Depends on how much money/strength you want to throw at it. Currie Enterprises will shorten the axles and tubes for you. Just send them your housing. They will do almost anything and their prices are reasonable. They are really into 8.8's because of the stuff they're doing for the off-road guys.
I happen to think that their 8.8 with the 9" axles/tubes/bearings conversion is perfect for Cobras. I got one only 50" wide. I am having my Vintage Wheels widened 2" from 9 1/2" to 11 1/2". I'll post pics when done. Brian |
