blown head gasket?
I believe I might have a blown head gasket on 351W supercharged. Symptoms, using a lot of water, white smoke once in a while, mostly when getting on it. Pukes a good bit of water out when shut down. Not really running hot, of course assuming my temp gauge is accurate. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to diagnose this problem?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Bly. |
Have it pressure tested. Put a pressure tester where the radiator cap was and often with a blown head gasket the pressure will increase quickly and go well above the rating of the pressure cap. Often you can see the needle "bouncing" as it moves up due to the pulses of the engine pressurizing the system.
Your symptoms sure do support your blown head gasket theory all right! |
From my experience of changing my head gasket 3 times.....
Looks more intimidating then it really is, nothing to be scared of changing. Also, leave the pressure tester on the system cold and pump it upto 15 or 16 psi and leave it sit. A good clue is how fast the pressure drops. Also, not extremely scientific, but pull all 8 plugs and check for water in the cylinders, I used a long screwdriver covered in masking tape on the end. My $.02 anyway....... |
Try retorqueing first. It fixed mine with the exact same symptoms. chuck
