Fuel line
Hello,
I'm running a 302 FI. I'm curious as to what other people did on their fuel lines. Did you use the original, or were you able to modify something else to match the Ford fittings? What about teh filter? Stock or aftermarket? Thanks, Ron |

Here is what I am doing on my 302 FI. I use an aftermarket inline paper filter. This gets the "big chunks". Then I use another filter with a ceramic element in it. This I clean every season (7 to 9,000 miles) I went to this 2 filter setup after cloging the ceramic filter late one season. Both are before the fuel pump. In a 5.0 Mustang magazine I found some adaptors that clip into the stock fuel rail. A couple of fittings later I'm converted over to braided fuel line. This was mostly for looks. While you are setting this up include an inline fuel preasure gauge. No, I can't see it while driving but it sure helps with diagnostics. Get the right brand of braided fuel line if you go this route. The stuff I have "weeps". by that I meen it never leaks gas but it does let vapors threw. This makes my garage smell of gas while the car is parked. Harvey R |

I found a site that has all the individual adaptors available to do what you did. My assumption is you are running an external fuel pump? I bought one to mount inside the tank and am going that route for now. Thanks for your reply. Ron |

Yes I have an in line pump. I know nothing about in tank pumps but the ones Ive seen out of mustangs have a screen filter covering the intake as I recall. Spend some time and think about the safest rout for the lines. Keep them well away from headers and if possible set it up so if you do get a leak it won't drip on to them either. Something else I did was got an inertia switch from a junk yard and wired it into the fuel pump circut. I mounted the switch out of the way in the trunk. Harvey |

Just for curiosity, what brand external pump did you get? By the time I'm done modifying the tank to insert the factory style pump, maybe the external would be a better deal. Thanks, Ron |
I don't know the brand of the fuel pump of hand. I'd have to look up the receipts. It's only about 2" in diameter and 4 or 5" long. I was told it sould be at the low point of the fuel line so I have it bolted to the side of the frame rail under the passanger seat. The pump runs constantly (no preasure cut off) but after 42,000 miles it is working great.
My car uses a a 69 Camaro fuel tank. the pickup/ sending unit had to come from a chevy dealer and was pretty expensive (about $200 as I recall) While we're talking fuel systems let me add that the one thing I'd like would be baffles in the tank. Below 1/4 full I get fuel starvation on hard corners or acceleration. On the plus side it works evan better than an idiot light at reminding me that I'm getting low on gas. Harvey |
