Lucas style tail lights?
What type of wire connectors are used on Lucas style tail lights? I just opened the box and can't figure out how the wires get attached. Of course, no directions!!

They use brass 'bullets' on the end of the wire that snap into the little ring on the lamp housing.
They usually include the wires with the ends on them when I've bought them (usually i buy from Finish Line, but from other sources too). |
Typically, on the original Lucas lamps, the wire connections are PINS. The pin is soldered and crimped onto the then of the wire and then it is inserted into the round femal connector.
That is how they are done on mine. I shot each one with Boeshield corrosion protectant and this works well. |

Same problem here.....
I was thinking of crimpng ring terminals onto the wires and then using some short machine screws with nylon locking nuts to hold them onto the side of the female light connectors. Any thoughts? :confused: |
Any type of male/female connectors could be used but in the honored British tradition as mentioned above Bullet connectors are the norm. The actual original type can be had from Moss Motors (they are a little pricey!). However a good substitute of a similar type is available in bulk packs from automotive electrical suppliers. I found the ones I used on a pegboard display in the local speed shop. They were available for different gauge wires. Just a tip, if you want a trouble free long lasting electrical system that looks neat and tidy, crimp and solder the connections and use heat shrink tubing, you'll never look back.

I tried the bullets, they worked for a small while, fell off/came off.
Went back and soldiered the wires directly to the brass rings. Been great since. BTW, Harbor Freight or any other China dump house, will have a four piece "pick" set. These four little tools are the nut for getting at the bulb and putting the rubber in place. I added the pick set to the travel tool box for popping the lens and changing bulbs. If you color code the wire like the back of a lot of cars, you can use heavier trailer tape wire. Hope this helps. |
