Summer Oil Viscosity
What are you guys running ?? I had Mobil 1 synthetic 15W-50 Racing Blend all last season in my 351W. For winter I dropped down to 10W-30 Mobil 1 mostly for start ups and short jaunts in cold temps. Now I cannot find the Mobil 1 Racing Blend anymore so I switched to Valvoline 20W-50 synthetic oil. Is anyone running a thinner viscosity synthetic than 20W-50 in summer season ?

Hey Jim:
I run 5W-30 Mobil1 all year long. I also cover the oil cooler in the cold weather. 40 PSI at idle, 55 at 2000RPM.

Yeah...Thanks Bob because I must admit I liked the way the engine sounded and revved on the lighter weight Mobil 1 oil ! I did have some concerns though about the lighter weight providing the same protection. Sooo,I called Ford Racing Tech Line before logging back on and they confirmed what you said. They advised to watch my psi...if the motor is pushing out 40psi at idle on the lighter oil and holding 60+ on higher revs go with the 10W-30. I'm changing back.

Hi Jim,
Charlie has been using the Moble1 5W30 in his 427SO for about 5 years now and has never experienced anything to make him worry, and you know Charlie:( .

I ran 0W40 EuroSpec Mobil1 in the 351W and ran great. Makes the pre-oiling with the Accusump work better too. Now, with the BB460, I am running 5W40 Mobil1 and so far, it's been revving great. I'm installing an accusump as well so when I cut the hoses, I think I'll put 15W50 Mobil1 for the season.
