advise for stalling motor
I have a Windsor Stroker with a Holley 750 cfm 4150 mod. If I break hard the motor can stall if I don't touch the gas. On long sweeping turns (track) the motor stutters a bit.
I have adjusted the float levels. It appears a bit better but is still having the same problem. Any suggessions? |
Carb is flooding, typical problem found on MANY of our cars. Typical solutions are:
External bowl vents extensions using a piece of rubber tubing. INTERNAL bowl vent extensions, these help a LOT, but don't CURE the basic problem (fuel sloshing into the main venturi areas). It helps to keep the float level at the lowest acceptable position. Center pivot float style carbs like the original Cobras ran for this VERY problem! Center pivot float carbs are to 'long' to use on a 2X4 intake which is the main reason the competition Cobras ran one carb! Shelby DID run a 2X4 intake during the GT-40 days to increase power output, but they weren't center pivot! |
I have a BG Speed Demon and never had a problem with stalling under hard braking. It more than likely has to do with an adjustment.
In addition. If you are experiencing problems while going into turns you may want to consider replacing the standard floats with road race floats. Roscoe |
Fuel slosh into the venturis under hard braking\cornering is typical of HOLLEY carbs, may apply to others as well.
Before I installed internal fuel bowl vent extensions on my dual Holleys the fuel slosh problem was quite pronounced even under modest braking\cornering. Running the 'track' was out of the question! It's MUCH better now, but is STILL a problem under extreme braking\cornering. |
Roscoe hit it on the head. The Road Race floats are tapered towards the ends so that the fuel sloshing does not affect the floats themselves. Very good even in street application.
