windsheil center anchor
I'm having a problem with my windsheild . I thought I had it all worked out. I've added a windsheild tensioner and it interfers with the acsess to the little bracket that goes to the cowl.I've lost the screws a couple of the grometts. I'm thinking about making a wider angle bracket from windsheild to body to put the screws that go down into the cowl wider than the tensioner bracket. How did you rigg yours ?

Windshield Center Support
I made a fixed tensioner (patterned after the one on CSX2259). I incorporated the lower windshield bracket into the design:

Jeff, do you have the brass glass supports that go down, into the body on the sides? I have wondered about putting a center support for the windscreen. Yours looks very well done.

I had to remove the center rod when I put my rearview mirror at the top of the windshield frame, I simpley bent a piece of stainless and polished it, I need the center support for the top, seems to work ok without the rod

That is a great method. My original ceter bracket was quite small ,2" wide and close to the glass frame. I'm using the adjustable tensioner that I bought from Finishline. The tensioner lower bracket is two inches wide chromed angle with tapered ends. I'm leaning towards a new seperate center bracket only wider (3 1/2" ) and a little deeper to get the screws that go down into the cowl away from the glass frame,not out as far aways as your example, and again two 10 x 24 rivnuts in the cowl . So I'm planning on my new bracket with rubber grommetts and the tensioner lower bracket over the grommetts. If I hadn't already gone with this stuff I'd likely coppy your bracket and fixed tensioner.

Being an FIA guy maybe I should ask what the purpose of the tensioning rod was?

the rod helps keep the windshield frame from distorting and breaking the glass, my top mounts into the rain grove on the top of the windsheild frame at the center point, this causes a lot of pressure on the frame at high speeds, I try not to get over 80mph with the top on, since I removed the center rod, it may not make any difference at all, hope this answers your question

Has anyone used the rearview mirror that attaches to the tensioner rod that Finishline offers? Probably mounted higher than the dash mirror.
Next do you mount up tight or rubber insolators to windsheild - to body? |
