Headlight Toggle Switch Failure?

My SPF has the following problem, which started right after I drove through a thunderstorm that got the cockpit wet. The headlight toggle switch won't click down into the "headlights on" position. When I push it down, it springs right back up and the headlights won't come on. Parking lights click on as usual, and the headlights blink on/off when I click the dimmer switch (which I believe is normal). It's a Lucas 3 position switch. I'm thinking it's an internal mechanical switch failure rather than an electrical problem, and the timing relative to the rain is just a coincidence. Blind optimism? Could someone tell me how these switches fail? Thank you!
Jerry

Looks like a new switch is in order.

Yes indeed. My "full service" dealer is sending a new switch and a wetsuit.

Have you thought about using relays for the headlights? I had the headlight switch fail on me at or about 2:30 in the morning when leaving my Nephews house. I drove home in the dark using the four ways to figure where the curbs were on the way home. When you arn't legal don't try to sneek.

It is a mechanical failure that is internal to the switch. You will probably need to replace the switch, unless you want to play with bending tabs. Even then there are no parts you can buy before the switch.

Sorry.
