Well the job is done. Very pleased with the results. Here is some info:
-Classic Roadsters -Carbed 302, about 400 hp, aluminum heads, hot cam, single plane intake, etc, etc. -3.73 gears -T5Z transmission -BFG Drag Radials Went from a stock 26lb 157 tooth flywheel to a 13.5lb 157 tooth aluminun RAM flywheel. Went from a stock Borg Warner 10" clutch to a FMS "King Cobra" 10.5" clutch. The stock clutch could not hold the torque from time to time and once it started to slip, it would just continue to slip furiously. So, I went to a lighter flywheel and a stronger clutch all at once. The clutch is great! Feels like a performance clutch now. Nice firm pedal and grippy. Absoultely no fear of slippage. As for the flywheel weight reduction, I can say the following: The car is every bit as drivable under normal conditions as it was before. It is absolutely fine taking off from a stop. Zero issue there. But, the car is faster overall in a deceptive way. Because I did not actually increase the power of the engine, you do not sense that the car is stronger when you are "on it" thru the gears. In fact running full throttle thru 1st and 2nd, the engine is actually working easier than it did before because it does not have to spool up this heavy 26 pound flywheel. So, . . the car does not sound stronger. But, . . What you do notice it that when you are on it, the car is moving and accelerating at a much faster rate. You get the feeling that you are flying forward at a much faster rate and with less effort. Overall, . . Ed be's vewy vewy pleased! So. That's about it. Ed |
