Wet Sandpaper for Long Board
I've got one of the 18" variable flex long boards from Eastwood and want to use it for wet sanding/blocking the primer coat.
Problem is, I can't find any 400 grit or higher wet sanding paper to fit the board. Biggest wet sanding paper I've been able to find is 9" x 11". Anybody know where to find any wet sanding paper in rolls or sheets that's 18" or longer? Thanks in advance for your help. |
I would think that during wet sanding, you are not taking enough off to warrant a longboard. A good sanding block should be all that is needed. That may be why it's not available.

You've got a good point there. Not available because there's just no demand for it.
I would have thought you'd still want the flat surface a flexible long board can give you. I've been using an 11" Dura-Block with 400 grit for the initial primer blocking so far and it's worked pretty well. Thanks for the reply. |
I thougt you were talking about Surfboards... Wrong forum

I used a piece of flexible nylon, 9" x 2" x 1/2 thick, with 400 grit wet sandpaper for all the curved surfaces, which is almost 80% of the car. For the flat surfaces, I used the 3M stickit 400 dry paper to get it flat, then wen't over it with a shorter block and 400 wet paper.
Before I primed the car, I blocked the entire body with 3M Stickit 180 grit paper with the 9" flexible block on the curved surfaces and a 17" board on the flat surfaces. After priming, the body was very flat when I blocked with 400 wet paper. |
