carburetor
I am running an edelbrock carburetor on a 351w and the person who installed it has the pvc valve hose running to the oil filler cap on one of the valve covers. Is there any other alternatives to this set up? There always seems to be a bit of oil residue forming around this cap and I would like to find a cleaner solution.

You don't need to run a PCV valve. Just put a breather on each valve cover. You may have to adjust for the richer mixture. Bob |
Your engine will thank you for running a PCV valve. It sucks the blowby gases out of the crankcase and mixes them with the air/fuel mixture and burns them. Your PCV valve generally fits in place of a breather, and a hose connects it to a large tube on the base of the carburetor, below the throttle blades. A connection to straight manifold vacuum will also work, but the more centrally located on the intake the better, so that as many cylinders as possible will share the gases. Most folks run a breather somewhere else on the engine, such as the other valve cover, although it isn't necessary. A word of caution: make sure the PCV valve is in a baffled area of the valve cover or it'll suck oil into the engine and burn it. The baffle only allows the blowby gases to get to the PCV valve.

my Eldelbrock valve covers came with the baffles, also one hole has a rubber grommet for the pcv and the other one has a rubber grommet for the breather/oil fill
