What oil pan are you using?

MrMagoo 09-27-2006 11:59 AM

Yeah, its pretty much based on your oil pan. A typical number for a "T" style pan that kicks out is 7 quarts.

if it's a 385HP 351w crate motor from ford motorsports it holds 5qts.

bignoze 09-27-2006 12:17 PM

it takes 5qts.

Mine holds 8 quarts in a Canton race oilpan, but my engine needs every drop.

Normally the engine builder puts a mark on the dipstick. Be very careful about overfilling. Whipped oil does not pump or lubricate very well.

Here are the pics of the oil pan

Which oil pan is it and how many quarts?

In photo #1 you can see where the dipstick is supposed to go. That is the old stock Ford crate oil pan so the others recommendation of 5 quarts should be close. Don't know if they are counting the filter and whether or not you have an oil cooler.

5 qts in your stock pan +/- the filter... if you have a oil cooler possibly a qt and a half more...depends on the size of the oil cooler.

I have the Canton T pan and with the remote filter and oil cooler, it takes just over 8 quarts for mine to be full after I run the engine. The remote filter lines and the cooler and lines take a little, so that is what adds to mine.
