Spinner removal help!
Cannot get my spinners off. Tried lead hammer and the plastic shot hammer. Now have a flat spot on one of them. Any suggestions ? I want to get rid of the nasty tires. :CRY:

Be sure you're hitting the spinners in the correct direction, look at the threads. I would do it with the tires off the ground. Use the lead hammer. Hit an ear, turn the wheel 120 degrees hit the ear and so forth. The first time I took mine off it was very difficult. Just stay at it. Don't go nuts putting them back on, the pins take the torque load. Use anti-sieze and safety wire. Bob |
Finish line has a nice tool for 195 dollars that spreads the load to all three ears atthe same time and makes the removal very easy.

Spinners come off in the same direction as the tires rotate when driving.

Thanks to all that replied:) . Several methods have been used with results just have to find the right one. The threads are not visible on the rears. The great news is I have the Goodyears i wanted. They will be on the car this weekend come Hell or high water.:LOL: I will contribute to the thread the results.;)

One recalitrant spinner on AK1113 took some gentle heat on the spinner body...this expands the spinner...and it came right off. Do not heat the hub

Then click on upload photos. Then browse button to find pics in your computer. Double click your picture of choice. Then follow the prompts as you go. Hope this works for you. |
I don't remove the safety wires until I'm ready to take off the spinners. Clip the wire, give the spinner a couple of raps with the lead hammer to get it started and then remove the wire. Then, with a gentle tap, you can always tell which way it needs to go.
When you're putting the wheels back on, seat the spinner and wire it before going to the next one. Assuming you put the wires on the right way last time... Lowell |
