Is there supposed to be a gas cap under... the...

the quick release Lemans cap?

Cashburn 10-30-2006 08:02 PM

Yes. Depends on manuf. but there should be one there... on one car I once saw a bathtub/sink type plug. I think it was a CMC.

I reckon it's a good idea to run a sealed cap under the Lemans cap and have a carbon canister to take care of the venting. I'm running a sealed filler cap under my lemans cap. I'll try to find a picture.

Cheers

Mine does not. There is a rubber gasket that seal the Lemans cap to the filler neck.

Nope, don't have one either, but like Jay said, it depends on the manufacturer.

I know of someone here in Hawaii who uses a tennis ball that seems to
work just fine.

My SPF has a nice locking gas cap under the LeMans cap

Roscoe 10-31-2006 08:03 AM

The tennis ball was used on the track back in the early days of racing the Cobras. I've used the same one for 7 years and it works fine as an anti-slosh valve. You should see the look on the gas station guys face when I take it out.....the tennis ball that is.....

I chose the locking cap to keep kids and unscrupulous characters at car shows from getting into trouble.

427SnakeSC 10-31-2006 09:28 AM

Mine doesn't have one. There is a rubber seal in the Lemans cap.

pmfranke 10-31-2006 09:37 AM

seems like hair ,fuzz and junk would come off the tenis ball after a while. no? does the cap still seal? I sure would like to stop all the fuel drips in and around the cap(down the back) when my tail does the wiggllie (the car i mean).

Morris 10-31-2006 11:09 AM

The LeMans type of cap has a tendacy to leak when going around corners.....

Especially if you put the car on a track......

The other issue is filling the fuel cell quickly ...... so you put the cap in below the LeMans cap...... and then use the space between the caps as the vent area...... and drill some holes in the sealing plate of the LeMans cap to vent the fuel system thru the LeMans cap............No leaks

Also..... when you are filling the fuel cell .... the vents will start spitting at you when you are almost full..... and they just spit back into the fuel fill hole....
