Attaching fibreglass shell to the steel Chassis
Once my father Cousin and I Pretty much get into building this Cobra kit car (straight after harvest in other words) The one question my father keeps asking me is "How do you attache' the fibre glass shell onto the steel Chassis". And i hate to say this I have no idea. We can build and modify pretty much everything, we've built a speed boat, a mechanical over hydrolic boomspray truck and many more things but building a Cobra kit car is completely different.
So if anyone has some photo's how the fibre glass shell ,which we have actually, attaches onto the chassis, which we are about to build or buy. What ever we can get our hands on, we would just love to here from you or see a couple of pics on how this is done. Thanks. Nathan |
I put 1/4 inch foam tape on all of the areas where the fibreglas touched the frame and then drilled and tapped each bolt for 1/4 inch stainless bolts and large washers. I think There's a picture of the frame prepped in my gallery.

I would imagine that each kit manufacturer has their own way of doing this. My body is held to the frame with a series of pop rivets along the lower edge of the rocker panel as well as in the engine compartment and the trunk. I think that one thing to consider is to spread out the load so that not too much force is placed on any one part of the body.
