Wind wings
I recently purchased a set of wind wings from finish line. The angle of the threads in the windshield frame doesn't match the angle of the hole in the wind wing bracket. Either I am really missing something here or a modification needs to be made somewhere to get the bracket to fit. Also, none of the bolts that came with the mounting kit come close to working.
I'd love some advise on this. Terry |
If you are using the existing holes in the windshield frame, open up the holes in the brackets with a drill, to get them to fit better to the frame. Use new, cut to length bolts. An electricians' pliers with the correct thread size bolt cutters built in, make quick work of the bolt cutting.

You are better off drilling and tapping new holes rather than use the ones existing. You stand a good chance of cracking the windshield.

When you install the bolts make very sure you apply a bit of Loctite to the threads.....especially if you intall with nuts up.
I mounted mine a couple of years ago like Roscoe has his (from the photos) wasn't smart enough to put on the Loctite....a couple weeks later I'm flying down the highway when all of a sudden the passenger side wing smacks against the inside of the winshield and lands on the floor...both bolts had lost the nuts due to vibration, bolts fell out ... luckily the wind wing came inside the car rather than being launched out onto the highway. No damage expect to my nerves. The noise startled the heck out of me:o Remember to Loctite the nuts:) I also changed from nuts up to nuts down |
I ground down the base of the wing mount to match the angle of the hole in the windshield frame.
