TR 3550 hard to shift
Today after a 50 mile outing the transmission became harder to shift. First gear is the worst but all gears are a little harder to select. Any suggestions? I am thinking the linkage may need to be lubricated but it came on fairly rapidly.

Take a good look at your linkage. I had mine get a real wierd feeling
on the way to a cruise-in and limped it back home when it was over. It wasn't hard to shift but felt very loose like the next shift wasn't going to happen. When I pulled the cover off the tunnel, I could see that one of the two bolts holding the shift lever to the linkage had backed completely out and the other was a little loose - no wonder there was so much play! I put nuts on the other side to lock the bolts in place, no more problems. Point is, check it out, there is a reason for the difficult shifting - something loose, out of alignment, or in need of some lubrication. Good luck. |
Incomplete clutch disengagement will cause hard shifting such as yours.. Check that first befor condeming tranny or shifter.

A few years back my TKO became hard to shift. Turn out to be a piece of carpet between the shifter and shift stop.
