Braided hose fittings

Can someone explain to me what the sizes of AN fittings are. I could understand if the were in inch sizes yet they are in AN sizes. Can someone enlighten me on this? I tried to look this subject up online but couldn't find any explanation.

Use the search feature on CC home page, try searching AN sizes or something close to that, it really is an antiquated sizing method once used by the US military, there is some very thorough and extensive explanations on the subject

-4 AN is aprox. 1/4"
-6 AN is aprox. 3/8"
-8 AN is aprox. 1/2"

It goes on up from there, the sizes are roughly equivalent to 1/16" increments ie: -6AN = 6/16ths=3/8... though just slightly smaller. Hope this helps.

So how is Greeality today... I grew up there, graduated from Central, and still have family living there. I get back there every year. I've only seen one Cobra there in the last 3 years and that was last May a blue/white SPF w/ roundelles. Saw it twice, the first time at Applebee's on W 10th parked in the lot and then on 35th ave a couple of days later heading south as I was going north.

This is a pretty good explanation of AN fitings.

Most things in aviation hardware are measured in 1/16". The Dash number is how many 1/16" the piece is. Thus the dash 4 is 4/16" or 1/4" and so on.
