There are alot of benifits to this set up hp/torque, cost, speed to change raitos (about an hour with a spare third member) and part are very available new and used depending on the budget. For $5000.00 you could have the housing and 3 third members with different ratios. If anyone is interested drop me a line at mknos@att.net or call @ 602-400-7725

Mike, as there are aluminum 9" carriers out there, are you able to make an aluminum 9" version? And if so, for how much more?

My understanding is that it was below 3.07 rears you had to have a different carrier. I would not think that there are too many cobra's with 4.11's or higher rears, using the DANA 44 as supplied in the shelby 4000's.

Anthony thanks for the info on the 3.07 I couldn't remember were the split was. We did run 4.11 and some higher stuff when we raced 289's in the past, depended on the track. As for an aluminum housing we could fab one up but I would want to work with someone who races so we could beat on it before we put something like that into production. Not sure how much weight we could save if any, so it would be just for cool factor. I can play with a solid model and see if the weight goes down much. As for cost not sure at this time. As for timing it might be awhile our military customers just got new budgets to work with so we have lots of work to get done.

Thanks,

Mike

NOSMS,

We built & raced one with a 'Strange' alloy head & Tru Trac last season & did not manage to break it, in fact had no trouble with it at all. Have put pics of the housing up in my gallery. This was built specially for another car, but I intend adding mount lugs etc to the housing to facilitate mounting in the Cobra/Daytona chassis. Also want to remove a bit of 'fat' from the mold to cut down on the amount of clearance work I need to do in final machine work.

Cheers
Jac Mac

I was looking at a couple Jag third members on eBay and the sellers show them weighing 115 to 120 lbs by themselves. Is that correct?
Do they really weigh that much?

My Jag rear with mounts for the Kirkham was about 135#'s if I remember correctly.

I agree about the potential of an oil additive potentially atttacking the paint but it is/was common practice to paint the interior of blocks with Glyptal to seal the cast metal surface, perhaps it would be the better choice?.

Auburn Diff.

I just took delivery of a Kirkham roller in Oct. and the diff is stamped "Auburn". I assume Auburn Gear Corp. Have to say I like what I got. Looks good, fits right. I figured since everyting else in the car was new I didn't like the idea of a used drivetrain component. Similar cost, I opted for a Tremec rather than a toploader for the "new" factor.
