4 post lift opionion , anyone shop them ?
Which 4 post lift ? I got it down to two for now Americas Pride , or automotive service equipment ( Bendpak )
looking 9000lb on both , I have a suburban , tahoe , cobra same type price . Thanks |
I bought a small 7000lb rated 4-post lift a couple of years ago. I was just darn tired of fooling around with jacks and stands and I now have a hoist and another parking space inside. Deluxe...
It is fine for the Cobra, Mustang, and a 57 Chevy but too narrow to clear the mirrors on my F-250. The whole package with drip trays, castors, and a jack tray was under $2K delivered. I have a Bendpak from ASE and love it. Looked at Backyard Buddy but I think it's overpriced. The Ford dealership my son works at has all Bendpak. Safety catches couldn't be more foolproof.

The Back Yard Buddy isn't cheap but it looks like the Cadillac of 4-posters to me. I expected to have one by now but I still have some stuff to clear out of the garage to make room for it.
BTW...If you've been to the Quaker Steak and Lube during DVSF or the London Cobra Show, the cars in the restaurant are up on BYB lifts. Lowell |
I just bought a Bendpak 9000lbs four post and set it up a couple of weeks ago.
It seems to be a very well built liift. Bendpak is a comercial lift approved for service shops. Some of the lifts are only intended for storing cars. I think it has to do with the safety stops. For me the safety is important. If I am standing under my car I need to be sure its not going to squash me like a bug. There is about five hundred dollars difference in price between a Bendpak and several other lifts. MadDog |
Just had my Backyard buddy put up in my garage. Very happy with. Had a separate 110V, 20amp outlet put in(they have a 220V option as well). American made, US steel, sturdy, and works great. Had the longer ramps as well. There was about a 10-12 week wait from time of order. Very happy with my purchase.

I bought an American Pride 2 post lift. My son and I put it together. And let me tell you drilling 12, 3/4 inch holes in 6 inch concrete for the hold down studs was a bear. I used a 3/16 inch bit to drill pilot hole first so that the hole would be sort of accurate, and then drilled the holes with 3/8 bit, and then with 1/2 bit, and then finally with 3/4 bit. All the holes were right on. Lifted the columns up and bolted them down, run the cables and hooked up the hydraulic lines, had an electrician hook up the juice and walla it worked. Put a one ton pallet of stuff on it to check it out and everything went just fine. Now I just have to convince my son to let me put his 69 Dodge Charger on it to test it with a car on it and I'll let you know how it works later. Oh the directions that came with the lift were lame. I called the Co. and asked for more info and they faxed it to me. Still kinda lame but even a old airhead like me could do it. Have fun if you get one.
