Tremec 3500 TKO drain plug
I am planning on changing the tranny fluid in my TKO and as I am not under the car right now, I thought I would ask a hopefully simple question!
Is the drain plug easy to distinguish? Passenger side or drivers side? I have searched the forums and do not feel I know which side I will need to crawl under the car!! Thanks in advance!! |
Terry;
If I remember correctly, the drain plug is on the bottom of the trans, pretty much in the middle, easy to find, square head pipe looking plug, fill plug looks the same, not positive, but I think it's on the pasenger side of the trans. about half way up, it's the hard one to get to, to re-fill the trans............. I use a piece of clear tubing ( 1/2" I think ) with a small funnel to fill the trannie. Run the tubing from the top of the motor, between the firewall and motor to the passenger side into the filler hole. It takes about 3 qt to fill the trannie. It's easier if you have someone to help. One to pour the fluild in the funnel and one to watch when it flows out of the filler hole. You need a pan, rag, and wrench. Warm fluild flow quicker ( 70-75 degrees ).

You can download a complete service manual from Tremec here:
http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English...ts/TR-3550.asp They don't list one for the TKO but you can probably contact them for one. Anyway, they are very similar Roscoe |
Terry,
I have the complete service manual plus a CD that takes you step by step through rebuilding one of these things. Not what you asked though. My drain plug is on the bottom on the passenger side a little farther back than the check/fill plug which is about half way up on the passenger side. My transmission is obviously a lot easier to get to than some as I can pull it and have it on the bench in 20 minutes easy. To fill it I just get a jug with the fluid and it has a pump with a hose and a curved metal end which hooks just over the lip of the fill hole. I just pump while sitting on the floor until I see it start to seep out. Takes around 5 minutes to do this. Ron |
Thanks for all the good ideas and the help gentleman!!
