Holley Carb Stripped threads
I stripped the sight plug threads in one of the float bowls on my 650 Holley this afternoon, while attempting to stop a source of fuel seepage. Is there a product available or a procedure to save the existing bowl? My good friend John Peterson loaned me a bowl to use until I resolve my World altering dilema (thank you John, I owe you big time.)

Rick......you never called to say if the other bowl worked!!!!!! I hope it did the job. Turlock is coming up next weekend and you just never know, those 48's you been dreamin about might just be on the bottom of some guys pile of stuff for like 10 bucks or something........(it could happen). Talk to you this week...

If you enlarge the hole, you alter the geometry of setting the float by the sigh plug. If you can live with a slightly lower float level, tap for the next size up.
Use brass or nylon washers for the seal.

I probably have 5 to 8 "parts" carbs (all Holleys), if you need a bowl, I'll give you one..............

You're gunna need a new float bowl. Once the sight glass hole is stripped, it will need replacing to get it right.

I had hoped that there was some sort of well thought out proprietery type of repair available, but it's not the space shuttle is it? Guess I'll try to find a replacement bowl. I did notice that the later produced carbs have 4 or 5 threads holding the screw in instead of 2! In retrospect I think the secret is to use fresh sealing washers instead of attempting to tighten/re seal one that has been in place for some time.

Whats really tough is when you strip one of the four screws that hold the bowel to the carb body. I have with LIMITED success been able to heli coil a couple, but it's really tough to get them right. It's virtually 'game over' if you strip out one of those. Tighten just enough to seal, no more!

Just pick up another used carb on ebay, then you have extra parts.

Rick,
Is there something special about that carb that you want to keep the original bowl if possible? Does that bowl have a number on it? I always change the sealing washers on mine when I take one out just as I do the small soft plastic ring around the oil pan plug.
