Battery box location (or beating a dead horse)
Now I know this is beating a dead horse subject, but my car being as different as they come chassis wise I have a bit of a pondery on my hands. I've come to the point where I want to fabricate the tray that will hold my battery box in the trunk (there is no room up front believe me) and I can't decide where to put it.

Or position B behind the passenger side wheel on the floor of the trunk. The floor of the trunk sits at the level of the body line it's plenty deep so I should not have any difficulty removing it. What, where do you think? Patrick |
Put it in position A and give it its own recessed compartment forward of the trunk space toward the passenger area. It would be a pain to install and remove but would also be secure and out of the way.
Unless you put in an access panel so you could pull it out through the passenger compartment. Hell, I got lots of ideas seeing as you are the one doing the fabricating and living with it. Your car is looking really good Patrick, impressive stuff. |

With the updated photo I think position B is the spot. That is the same basic location they were mounted in the early Austin Healy 3000's.

I had mine mounted in position B just behind the right rear wheel for 11 years and never had a problem. Easy to get in and out and to disconnect if I needed to.

May I suggest a battery box from a PT cruiser.
It bolts to a plate or tube ( with fabrication ), it does not need a top bracket, it is PLASTIC and will not rot and it has a great hold-down that makes putting the battery in easy ( delending on the location ). I wish I had designed mine around this box/tray. It is just a suggestion. BTW, if you put in the dead center of the rear, wouldn't you have a problem getting the trunk open? :D |
