The capacitor is $40 and the rev limiters are $60.

I personally believe that the whole MSD flap is more urban legend. They have done a lot in the way of quality control from their earlier days...that's probably when they experienced the most problems. I thought my unit went bad, too. Had MSD load test it and it was fine. Traced the real problem back to a bad (loose) ground wire. I run a 100% MSD solution...billet distributor, high vibration coil, wires, etc. Car starts and runs good. I believe most MSD issues are related to other electrical problems independent of MSD (as has been outlined on this thread quite a few times, i.e. bad ground, bad voltage regulator, etc.).

MSD was bought out by a private equity firm a year or two ago. These deals rely hevaily on debt to fund the majority of the pruchase. You can bet that expenses are being more closely watched to help make the debt payments. In terms of increased failures I have no direct knowledge. My 6AL has worked fine for 8 years. I have noticed that their distributor caps do not appear as durable as the old ones though. This is my opinion though and I have no tech to support it.

Everything is MSD

We are running a MSD6 box, MSD Blaster High Vibration Coil, MSD Pro-Billet distributor and MSD 8.5mm Wires. No problems The box is mounted in the passager's footwell away from any heat. It was easy to wire and makes a great difference in engine response.

MSD 6AL box

Lineslinger I have had 2 Msd boxes go bad. First was from a welding bracket on the car. I didn't unhook the power and it blew the box. 2nd was the ground wire connection was weak, and cooked the box. Both where repaired from MSD with no problem and no charge, on shipping. Since I have learned these lessons no problem. I do carry a spare with me. My whole ignition system is MSD. I mounted my box under my glove box, next to my ECU. They are kept clean and dry. The air flow that comes from the front of the car for the foot box blows on both modules. No other problem at this time, but a do carry spare box, crank sensor, and distributor module, Coil I can get local at any speed shop or Auto-Zone. Rick Lake ps carry basic tools to change this also.:)

I'm running an MSD digital 6. 2K miles and no problems. Mounted in passenger footwell.

Works for me

:)

4 years and not a problem one. Mounted behind the dash in the area you would expect a glovebox.
