rear axle question

When I built my CRII I procured a rear axle from a 95 mustang. When I took it apart to clean up and paint I took a weight off of it that was attached to the diff near where the driveshaft comes into that axle. I never put it back on and found it while cleaning my garage tonight. Is it important? should I put it back on? If not will I blow up?

This is the cast bracket that bolts on the under the front nose of the diff, right?
I read somewhere that it's called "monkey-balls" and no, you don't need it.
Unless you're a monkey!

That's one of the devices added to cut down on the NVH(noise, vibration and harshness), it's is not a neccesary component.
