351 Cleveland slave cylinder
I need to come up with a slave cylinder and mount for a Cleveland in a Cobra. I figure before I fabricate the mounts, I might as well see whats available. I tried Googling and searching various forums, but no luck. Maybe the Windsor setups will fit a Cleveland? I see the Raybestos SC33721 recommended, but I'm not sure what mounting bracket is used, if any. One thing I like about the SC33721 is it's about 1/4 the price of the Sunbeam Tiger Girling slaves I usually use!
Anybody got any ideas, photos, comments? Thanks photo of the Raybestos SC33721 for reference http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...IL._AA200_.jpg |
It looks like you might be able to mount that one right off the bellhousing/scattershield using a longer bolt.

How about a slave cylinder from a Pantera? http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...era_carbs3.jpg Already made for a 351C. Sorry, I don't have the car anymore, or I'd take some closer pics for you. regards, Jeff |
Plus and Minus
The old Ford version is cast iron and a 1" bore. The mounting is unique and usually can be adjusted by using a long bolt in one of the bell holes to mount it while fabricating a bracket for the other. The bleed comes with it, but the adaptor hole is some really odd thread count... its available, but takes some careful measuring and looking (7/16-24 vs 7/16-20 or some...).
The old Girling repro is aluminum and a 7/8" bore. It always needs a bracket, but its pretty easy to fabricate. Once again using a long bolt in a bell hole or some such combo. Uses a standard thread fitting and rebuild kits are available. For my 2 cents, I like the 0.700" bore master with 7/8" bore slave. The 1" bore slave may need a larger bore master that isn't readily available. Watch the bracket in operation and eliminate flexing. I've had some surprises here. Price is $40-$55 for either one... |

I feel your pain. I researched the crap out of slave cylinders until I came up with this set up. I have a 351W with a T5 and used this set up from Autoworks Racing.
http://www.autoworksracing.com/hydra...ts%20enter.htm I attempted to attach an image but am not sure it I did it right but you will see one on the website. Anyway, these guys were real helpful and can help match you up with the correct part for your bell housing or transmission. Good luck, Richard |
The 351C takes the same bellhousing as the 351W. Shouldn't the slave from a Windsor bolt right up to the Cleveland, assuming that as with most slaves it's somehow mounted to the bellhousing mounting bolts? I have to do the same job down the road, as my CCX with 351C had an automatic when I got it and I'm converting to a TKO600. If I'm wrong in my assumptions about the W setup fitting the C, then I've got some learning to do was well.

Thanks for all the replies fellas.
Rich, I was thinking the same thing, but now I'm less interested in it after seeing it has a 1" piston. dang. :( Jeff, when Googling, Pantera consistently came to the top, so I looked into it. If I'm seeing it properly, the slave is on the right side top of the bellhousing. That won't work with a std. RWD Ford bellhousing, correct? Roger, I don't like the 1" bore either. I think I'll just buy a slave from you and fab my own brackets. I'll contact you. Richard, the Autoworks Racing setup is really trick, but it seems to be for modern 5 speeds only. Plus it looks a little spendy for a cheapskate like me! ;) 767Jockey, I'm not sure if the C and W have similar mounting areas around the bellhousing. I'm just going to make my own brackets. |

Yes, the location of the slave on the Pantera is on the RH side of the engine. I assumed you would need it on the left side for a front-engine RWD application, and thought perhaps the Pantera bracket could be modified to do that. Hope you find something that works for you. regards, Jeff |
Kris;
Look at Wilwoods slave...easy to mount and (so far) very reliable! Very reasonable, too! |
CNC slave cyl.
hey kris, look at the photo in my gallery. I just made a bracket for CSX2498 and mounted the CNC 7/8" slave that is so popular. we just connected it, pumped it up and it works super. There is no reason why the same style bracket can not be made to fit the 351.
