New Tires for my SPF/427SB
I've had the BFG's, now running Yoko's, not very satisfied.
Present sizes are 255/60/15 and 275/60/15. Yes I like the look of 15" wheels. Some vibrations and steering wheel shake, smooths out somewhat after driving about 15-20 miles.I've had 2-3 different types of balancing done with not a whole lot of improvement. I've also tried different tire pressures without getting much improvement. Thinking of perhaps trying some Goodyear's or even going to the 15" Nitto NT555R's, I'm told Nitto makes excellent tires and they certainly look good. I beleive Nitto calls this a Street/Drag Radial, it is DOT approved, it's V rated which I beleive is good up 149mph. Nitto offers these in 275/60/15 or 275/50/15 which I beleive will work on the front, for the rear's they offer 325/50/15 also V rated. The Nitto's are relatively close to the tire O.D.'s I'm presently running and the width difference (OAW) are as follows: Fronts = +.625" (+.3125" per side) for the 275/60/15, and the Rears = +2" (1" per side) for the 325/50/15. Haven't checked the prices yet, but it doesn't really matter (within reason) as I am really tired of fighting this issue. Hopefully some of my fellow snake lovers out there can offer some thoughts on my ideas or perhaps suggest some other options? I would really appreciate the help. I live in Arizona, so it's generally dry and sorta warm. Sincerely, Double T |
Avon CR6ZZs are currently the best high performance radial DOT 15" tire for our cars. Available in 245/60/15 and 295/50/15. They are expensive.

Where did you find the Nitto tires in the sizes listed? The Nitto website only shown 16" and 17" diameters.

I wonder if all the musclecar forums have as many "tire" threads as CC? There is a definitely a market niche to be secured and manufacturers like Goodyear are obviously either ignoring it or are blind to it.
FWIW, I run MT drag radials (DOT approved) on all four corners and like the handling. See my gallery for pics. -Dean |
We be small taters...

On their website Nitto Tire - High Performance Tires for Car and Truck Enthusiasts
Look under series NT555R, sizes & specs. Double T |
Thanks for the info, and your right they are expensive but may be worth it if they're as good as claimed. Are you running them? How do you know about them. Double T

Are you asking about the Avons? -steve |
Looks like you posted same thread in 2 subforums. It gets confusing
I suggest a 4-wheel alignment on a Hunter machine. Then a good wheel balance, also with a Hunter machine. (No, I don't work for them but am a big fan) My cars drive like a dream after doing both.
Anyway, here's how the Nittos will look on 15s. I got them from discount tires direct. They stick like glue, smooth as silk, but throw a lot of road debris and rocks under your fenders. If you get them, line the underside of your fenders with something like a dense foam hood liner material, or else you'll get spider cracks on your paint. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../fatires31.jpg |

If so, are they as good as claimed? Thanks, Double T |

Yes, I am running Avons, and yes, they are great tires. Before the Avons I put about 10,000 miles on a set of Goodyear Eagle IIS and 30,000 miles on 2 sets of Yokos. I have put just over 6000 miles on the Avons (including 6 hard track days at VIR and Gateway International and 24 or more 1/4 mile drag passes.) I MAY squeak out another 1000 street miles, but that will really be pushing it. The Avons are totally in a class by themselves. They are addictive. It would be very hard to go back to a "regular" street tire. -Steve |
