Cleaning A Polished Kirkham
Hello all,
Proud owner of KMP 542. Polished with brushed stripes. Thought I would check in with this venerable group to find out what is the very BEST way to clean a polished aluminum Kirkham? I have been told a variety of things, but want to do this carefully, and in the best way possible. Here are the suggestions I have heard thusfar. 1. Windex and clean cloth/ 2. Rubbing alchohol and clean cloth 3. Mothers' Aluminum Wax Anyway, thoroughly enjoying the beast, but want to keep her clean. Any thoughts? Thanks! al VNMS 65 |
Rubbing alcohol won't work. It will leave streaks. Use Windex and cotton towels for regular cleaning or use some brake spray or lacquer thinner for the tough stuff.

I have found that a polished car is going to need some wax to clean it.

I found this works
I use Mothers Aluminium polish and microfiber cloth on the polished part. To clean the brushed stripes I use WD40 on a rag then clean the oil off with windex.

I have found that if I drive REALLY FAST at Miller Motorsports Track, then the wind wipes clean of all the dirt, grime, etc.

I assume there is a difference between cleaning a polished Kirkham, polishing a polished Kirkham and waxing a polished Kirkham. Aren't these different tasks? I'm assuming all three are necessary.

Gosh, the Kirkhams build such a dead-on replica that they even LEAK like the originals. :D

Yeah, you should see the mess when you top off the tank then park in the sun. That air that gets trapped in the top rear section of the tank pushes gas out all over the place as it warms up and expands.

Al, there's some verbiage in the manual on the Kirkham website, but I would just call or email Joe. Joe knows.
