using charger to check wiring and msd question

using a batt charger with 10 amp setting and checking the wiring, all looks good so far. on the ignition side i have power and everything looks to be hooked up correctly, when the msd is hooked up it makes a sound like a weak battery on a charger chatter. i've never heard this before and didn't expect any sound. the coil is hooked up, no distributor lead for discharge, no engine.

anybody else experience this or explain what is happening?

Pulsing of the MSD

vector1 Mine does the same thing when I turn the key on. It's a spark pulse. I have found no problem with it. No burn marks on the cap or rotor. I think the trigger in the distributor sparks the system if the rotor is in the correct location. I have both crank and cam sensors on my system. With FI all the fins in the distributor are removed but #1 for the sequential firing of the injectors. The advanced wieghts are locked out anf all the timing is controlled by the ECU. Rick L.
