Lowbeams burnt out
I went to leave a friends house tonight and when I turned on my headlights they flickered and went out. I switched to highbeams and they came back on but nothing when I switched back to lowbeams.
I pulled the headlights and the lowbeams are burnt out. The alternator is putting out 14.17 volts with no load and drops to 13.8 with the highbeams on. 14.17v is a little high but I wouldn't think it would blow the headlights. Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this? Thanks for any help!!! Darren |
was this the first time you used your lights?? if not, and they were always working, maybe it was there time to go out. how old are your lights

Hey Darren,
As a routine check would be to look for corrosion or signs of heat at the connection. Verify you have a good ground on each light, we use a 10AWG ground wire run to the chassis on each side. We need more info to add much more to look for, maybe just time to go. |
The car has only been on the road for about a month and all parts are new and clean with no signs of corrosion. I also used a 10AWG gnd ran to the chassis on each side.
Also both went out at the exact same time. The reason I mentioned the voltage is this is the first time that I've ever ran a 1-wire alternator and thought I may have had a voltage spike. Thanks |
Your voltage is the same as mine was when I had my car and I had no problems with the lights. However I didn't have a one wire alternator. But it seems a voltage spike would have made them bright for a second and then burn the filament out. It does seem strange that both went out at the same time though. What kind of bulbs are you using?

It was about dusk and I didn't notice if they got really bright for a second or not so it hard to say. I'll check what kind of bulbs they are when I get home this afternoon. I bought the headlight and assembly from Finish line. (http://www.finishlineaccessories.com...roducts_id=185)
