Where can I find brake fluid with some color?

During today's lunchtime discussion David mentioned that when he bleeds his brakes he uses brake fluid which has a different color than what is in the lines. In that way he knows when the fluid has been replaced.

So my question is where does one purchase DOT 3 or 4 which is something other than clear?

says it will mix with dot 5,i thought that dot 5 is silicon based and wouldnt mix with 3 or 4.

What if you were to put a little food coloring in the fluid?

You are correct, they don't mix. I don't see where they say they will. I don't agree with their comments on Dot 5. If installed correctly, there is no problem with a soft pedal. I have it in 2 cars.

i do too and love it,ive had no problems with a soft pedel,i think the key is to bleed the brakes slowly as not to foam it up,at least thats what i did and ive been running it for 7 years and my dad has it in his 50s truck since it first came out and hasnt had a problem.i was wondering about the food coloring myself that Tim mentioned.may work.

There are 2 versions of the Super Blue- blue of course, and yellow so if you want to bleed the system, you can see when the new fluid appears. I would definitely not put food coloring in brake fluid.

i went back and looked again and it says it will mix with dot 5.1,im not sure if thats silicon,i know 5 is.yellow brake fluid hmm, reminds me when i was teen and we ran out of fluid and a guy took a pee into the master cylinder to get us home,i guess it worked i got home.stupid teens do stupid things.:JEKYLHYDE

5.1 is compatible with the 3 & 4. Dot 5 isn't. The key on installing Dot 5 is DO NOT shake the bottle and pour it gently.

They have a nice comparison chart, it is the third and fourth one down on the chart. They are
ATE Super Blue and
ATE Type 200
Hope this helps you out...Dave
PS: Check out the great WET boiling point of this stuff, and it is reasonably priced!!
