Wilwood remote master cylinder leaking
For some strange reason I can not get them to stop leaking I have replaced both half's and o rings 4 times. I heated the reservoir like it says, dam near tried everything but after a week they all start leaking. Has any one out there had a problem (Wilwood says I am the only guy in the world that has) :JEKYLHYDE I can build the hole car but I cant make one little reservoir stop leaking.

Your title says the master cylinder is leaking. Later you say the reservoir is leaking. Where is it leaking?

We don't use the Wilwood remote reservoirs, but the caps to the master cylinders might be similar.
Carefully clean any flash on the reservoir and the mounting bracket. Don't overtorque the clamp. In desperation, try a quad-style O-ring. http://www.mcmaster.com/param/images...doubleseal.gif |
my remote reservoir leaks too, I plan to switch to the metal reservoirs when I have a chance.

Eddy - I have no experience with those reservoirs, so I'm no help. But looking at the photos on the Wilwood web site, I have to say that a two piece brake fluid reservoir has got to be one of the dumbest design ideas I have seen. I'd go with someone else's reservoirs.

I replaced mine with a billet piece after replacing my leaky Wilwood one with a new, equally leaky Wilwood one. That company makes nice brake components but they need a better source for their reservoirs.

I had the same problem. I called Wilwood and they recommend dipping the top and bottom portion in boiling water (including the O ring) and then assembling it and tightening the clamp.
If you tighten the clamp too much, you'll end up distorting the plastic and it will never seal and you'll have to buy a new one. I finally got mine to stop leaking. The part is a POS and if it ever leaks again I'll swap it out for something else. |

Mine leaked. All 3 of them. I tried new O-rings, larger O-rings, hot water, different style clamps, de-burring and every other thing I could think of. I talked to 2 different Wilwood employees and they said they have NEVER heard of this problem before. Bull Sh!t. That problem is reported all over the internet from Cobra builders to hot rod builders. Your best bet is to throw them in the trash. I bought some from CNC and polished them. There are pics. in my gallery.

Piece of fuking sheet wilwood two piece reservoir. If you start with ****, regardless of what you do it will be ****. Lets do a group buy with someone for some billet ones. Anyone know a manufacuter. I just want the reservoir, not lines or pipes I will stick with the rubber hose.

I've been hearing this complaint continuously since just AFTER I bought my Wilwood remote reservoirs.

Like Jim suggested, I went with aluminum reservoirs from CNC Brakes.

That CNC part looks nice. For the SPF, there's no direct replacement part to match the bolt pattern, so you'd need to build an adaptor plate. I know Dean did that. |
Wilwood
I went for AP Brake product right throughout my cobra.
AP master cylinders cost little more than Wilwood from my supplier here in NZ, I am using the old Girling style baked bean reservoirs full and half size same as original cobra, this would be the only product under the hood that looks original.....! I think Wilwood manufacture good products, but I have never liked their conversion Master cylinder kits that have plastic adapters etc. |
I may have found a solution to the pos wilwood two piece. Sure it would have been easy to order a billet one but hey I was bored. I remembered repairing a leaking gas tank back in the late 80's. It was dripping, I smeared some Seal All and 10 years later sold the car and the tank never leaked again. The stuff is cheap and impressive. I took my two part piece of sheet reservoir apart, washed it out. I then put a bead of Seal All on the bottom half of the o-ring and the very bottom of the top reservoir. I slid them together and tighted the clamp. Leak sealed. I also put a glob on a can of a lid, let it dry and then popped off the piece and put it in brake fluid, the brake fluid does not deteriorate the seal all. It is the only sealant I found that can seal solvents once it cures. If your bored give it a try. Remeber to put it on the bottom half that way when you slide the reservoir on it is pushing the sealant down. This ensures you do not get any in the reservoir.

HUMMMM! sounds like a universal problem with the Wilwood product....plastic crap.
Mine plastic craps have been on the car for over a year now and no leaks so far, if they start leaking I'm going to the CNC type, besides they're shinny. Actually, the plastic reservoirs are very good with respect to placement and visual inspection (at-a-glance fluid level)..I like that feature. Perhaps too much heat, and overtightening causes the things to distort and start leaking, but what do I know? I do however agree with Madmax, Seal-All is the greatest stuff..it fixes everything and is clean (clear). Gas tanks, oil leaks on small fittings..so why not brake fluid on crap plastic resevoirs.
