Clutch disc air gap

I'm replacing my worn Zoom organic disc with a McLoed 11" organic street/strip. Steel flywheel was given a light clean-up cut and p'plate left alone. Worn disc was .281" thick, this one is .331". Previously ran a .040" clearance with no issue.

Would appreciate hearing your preferences on clearance before I set this one up.

Thanks,

Hi Chas,
Recommended air gap should be .020-.035" will give plenty of disengagement on a street clutch that has marcel.

It depends on the pressure plate

ERA chas Chas it depends on which pressure plate you are running, 3 finger long setup I run in the .040-.060" air gap clearance. Diaphams I run in the .030-.035" range. You want a CLEAN release of the disc with the clutch pedal in. This is what I have used for the last 30+years. For the Mcleod Soft-loc thats a whole nether story. Make sure you drive easy for 300-500 miles before beating on the clutch. It needs heat cycles and not to get glazed. Try not to feather it, no riding the pedal. Breakin is as important as air gap. :) Rick L

Great advice guys-about what I figured I should shoot for, .035" to maybe .045 or 050". Should have it together by next weekend.
Thanks
